Medicine Woman Band
A few years ago, Cher Hunter, our lead vocalist, was at a jam session with a bunch of musicians in a cosy shack in Glen Dunne. She was moved by the sound of a lead guitarist’s crazy hand-made machine, little did she know this was the legendary Roger Briggs of American Blues Exchange. He too heard something that day that wrenched him out of band retirement, and with that, he bestowed the name Medicine Woman to our gal.
After having sold his guitar to pay rent more than 20 years prior, Daz, Cher’s husband, joined the band as rhythm guitarist. There were also a few fine musicians to credit in getting Medicine Woman off the ground playing covers around Nelson over the next couple of years, and you boys know who you are!
In 2015, Roger sadly announced he was hanging up his guitar after 50 years of playing shows. Cher's philosophy of following her head, heart & gut led her to write original music as she felt compelled to continue the journey. As you can imagine, finding a replacement for Roger was going to be tough. Medicine Woman had quite a few forward bookings, so Cher pulled on her big girl pants and started auditioning musicians. Little did she know, the Universe had bigger plans and sent her Chaos, quite literally, a loveable, crazy, unorthodox, fingers have minds of their own, lead guitarist, lyricist and song writer.
In 2016, it was evident Cher and Chaos, both free spirits, now needed a solid rhythm section. That’s where Daz, who knew how to handle live wires with respect, (especially since he'd been married to one for over 25 years), decided bass was his next challenge. At which point his Christmas list would include a solid drummer who shared the vision of the band! A few months early, Daz’s wish was granted with Geoffrey Douglas K joining the band. Geoffrey’s solid time keeping and dance inducing beats led him to become the 4th key member of Medicine Woman Band.
Musical medicine was made over the next year, and we wouldn’t have kept it up without the massive support from our Medicine Woman Tribe, made up of friends, family, venues with heart, and great people like you! We feel like we are in the prime of our lives, and we are enjoying every energy exchange that takes place when you join us for a listen and a boogie.
